Content Calendars

During last week in my Internet Communication class we had a guest speaker that is an alumni of Appalachian State, Sarah Kasper. Sarah was heavily involved in the same organization that I am involved in on campus, her presentation focused heavily on how to appropriately schedule content for her organization and how she manages creating and publishing content. Following her lecture I spoke with her about creating content calendars and we discussed the position I have in an organization on campus managing promotion and social media and how I can make my position more efficient. We discussed how important having a singular organization voice across all platforms makes us seem more professional and ways that I can achieve that. We decided that the best plan of action would be to create a journal or style guide for the organization so if someone other than myself next year posts on social media we can limit the difference in voice. Also, the guide can be passed down from year to year in order to maintain as consistent of a voice as possible for years to come. As far as scheduling content in a content calendar the best idea we came up with is meeting weekly with my advisor and director on say, a Wednesday, in order to schedule content for Sunday-Saturday. This will break up the responsibility of creating content while also allowing for more ideas and representation of voices. I'm excited to use my skills and HootSuite training from this class in order to gain more experience.
